After a disappointing ISL 10, The Nawabs are back this year, hoping to put aside their troubles on and off the pitch and leverage its young talent and resilient spirit to improve on last year.

The departure of former head coach Manolo Marquez marked the beginning of a new chapter for Hyderabad FC last season.

Thangboi Singto's first year as head coach was a mixed bag, characterized by significant player turnover and the emergence of younger stars.

Despite the potential shown by these new talents, the team struggled, ultimately finishing at the bottom of the table with just one victory.

With Singto at the helm for his second season as head coach and with financial issues sorted out by the BC Jindal group's acquisition of the club, the team, although inexperienced, will be motivated to show they're here to stand tall against the giants of the ISL.

Squad changes and transfers

Hyderabad FC has said goodbye to several important players, including Laxmikant Kattimani, Makan Chothe, and Sahil Tavora.

This transition phase raises questions about how the team will adapt and whether the young talents will step up to fill the void.

With transfer bans in place for the franchise, owing to the several dues still owed by the club, they will be relying on the youngsters in the team to pick up the mettle and deliver for the side.

Youngsters to look out for

Abdul Rabeeh

One of the standout performers from last season, Abdul Rabeeh was pivotal in Hyderabad FC's attack despite not finding the back of the net himself.

Known for his tireless work on the flank, he was instrumental in creating opportunities and leading the team in chances created.

As the new season begins, his contributions will be crucial in driving the team's performance.

Alex Saji

Alex Saji emerged as a key figure in the backline after initially struggling for a starting spot.

The Kerala-born, since making his league debut in January has been a regular fixture in the lineup, bringing solidity to the defense.

While he didn’t secure many clean sheets, his presence was felt, and he will be vital for the team’s defensive strategies this season.

With the captain's armband vested upon him, Saji will be counted upon to not just lead the backline but also be the face of the club as they find their way out of the off-field mess.

Coaching insights

Thangboi Singto faced significant challenges in his debut season but showcased his ability to develop young players and foster a competitive spirit.

The team may have finished at the bottom, but their statistics revealed a more positive narrative, they created 186 chances, more than many teams above them, and ranked among the top five in successful passes.

This blend of attractive football and tactical awareness sets the stage for a more fruitful season ahead.

Tough opening fixture

Hyderabad FC's campaign kicks off with a challenging away match against Bengaluru FC on 19th September 2024.
