According to multiple reports in the media, four Indian Super League (ISL) sides are monitoring Sunil Chhetri's situation at Bengaluru FC with the intention of roping him in this summer. The rumours suggest that ATK Mohun Bagan, SC East Bengal, Mumbai City FC and FC Goa are all waiting in the wings and have offered him contracts with a better financial package than what the Blues have him on currently. It is to be noted in this context that the Indian national team captain's existing contract at the club runs down in May this year after which he will be available on a free transfer.

Bengaluru FC wrapped up their 2020-21 ISL campaign with a disappointing and hard-fought 3-2 defeat against Jamshedpur FC with Chhetri scoring their second goal on the night. In the process, the Blues' captain, leader and legend brought up his 100th strike for the club with whom he has been associated for the best part of eight years. After the match, interim head coach Naushad Moosa was quick to point out that in his opinion, the striker would be going nowhere anytime soon and in all likelihood will be retiring at the club which he now calls home.

If a report by The Times of India is to be believed, the player has already knocked back a lucrative offer from the Gaurs back in January while similar offers from the Islanders and the Mariners are on the table. As far as SC East Bengal are concerned, they have asked Chhetri and his agent to wait for a while to allow them the time to resolve issues within their management and come up with a concrete offer. However, the ball seems to be in Bengaluru FC's court for the time being with the club expected to move imminently in trying to table a new contract. This one might be a long-drawn affair which is sure to keep the Bengaluru fans on the edge of their seats for the next few months.
