India's two-most experienced squash players Saurav Ghoshal and Joshna Chinappa leave for Cairo, Egypt on Thursday to take part in the CIB Egyptian Open 2020, which is a PSA World Tour Platinum event. The event will be organized by I-Events and will take place from10 to 17 October 2020.

This will be the first event which will see Indian participation after the resumption of the sport following the lockdown imposed by COVID-19. Squash events resumed in September and so far three events have taken place - Challenger in France, A silver event in England and a world tour final in Egypt. No Indians took part in these events.

The Egyptian Open is considered one of the eight biggest platinum events in the world, bringing together the best 96 men and women squash players from 19 different countries, with a total prize money of $540,000 for both Men and Women. This is the largest sum of prizes for squash tournaments this season since the emergence of the Covid-19 outbreak. No Indian has ever won in the tournament so far.

World no. 13, Ghosal's last tournament was the Canary Wharf Classic in London in March. He will meet Tom Richards of UK or Auguste Dussourd of France in the second round of Egyptian Open on October 11 after receiving a bye. Joshna will face either Scotland’s Lisa Aitken or Nada Abbas of Egypt on the same day.
