Preview

Matchday 9 of the Indian Super League (ISL) gets underway on Monday with a match between Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC at the Fatorda Stadium. The Blues come into the game with 12 points from 7 matches and are currently third in the points table. However, they lost their last match 1-0 against ATK Mohun Bagan and will be looking to get back on track. The Men of Steel are also coming off a defeat against FC Goa after an unbeaten run of six games.

The two sides have met each other six times previously. Each of them have won twice while the other two matches were drawn. For the neutrals, this is going to be an interesting battle between one side which has a knack for scoring freely in the second half and another which tends to concede most of their goals during that period. While Bengaluru are the joint highest second half scorers in the season so far, Jamshedpur have conceded 4 out of their 9 goals in the last fifteen minutes.

Squad Overview

For Carles Cuadrat’s men, captain Sunil Chhetri and Cleiton Silva are the key men. Both of them have three goals from seven games each and will be looking to add to their tally. Dimas Delgado, Erik Paartalu and Suresh Wangjam are the other usual suspects who will be in charge of winning the midfield battle. Their defence is sort of a worry though, and with Ashique Kuruniyan still out injured, they will have to make do with a somewhat makeshift arrangement involving the likes of Juanan, Rahul Bheke, Pratik Chaudhari and Harmanjot Khabra.

Owen Coyle’s side will be looking to bounce back following a disappointing result against the Gaurs. Nerijus Valskis remains the key for them in terms of unlocking the Bengaluru defence even though he hasn’t found the net in the last two games. He will be aided by Jackichand Singh, Aniket Jadhav, Isaac Vanmalsawma, Alex Lima and Aitor Monroy. Their defence has been getting better with each passing game but the setback against Goa would have brought a few issues to light, especially in defending set-pieces. However, Stephen Eze will be raring to go after getting a goal while his partnership with Peter Hartley is what Coyle will be banking on.
